Our Winner is…

Amanda Patrone

Amanda you are the winner for my 2 year giveaway!  Congrats to you and thank you for supporting my work and following my blog!  Your cobalt crystalline candle pot will be mailed out to you tomorrow.  I hope you enjoy it.

Tomorrow I will be able to open up the kiln.  Over the weekend my husband, Andrew, helped me load and fire the kiln.  It was filled with parts to the Jeremiah Tree.  I hope to post about that soon.  I have a lot of work I would like to get done this week.  I sure have a lot going on this summer and fall…one day at a time right?  Well, here is to a great third year of business and creating.  Thank you again to all who have been supporting me and following my work.  You have all been a great encouragement.

Color Drip Candles

My good friend, Jenny, gave me these color drip candles as a Christmas gift this past year.  She has a bunch of them herself and would always tell me when she was burning one and how cool they were.  Knowing how much I like candles, Jenny got me some.  This is the first time I have been using them because I wanted to have the right candle holder to burn them in.  As these candles burn, the wax runs down the sides and creates these beautiful color drips that mix with each other and from the secondary colors.  I wanted a candle holder that would allow the wax to build up.  I decided to make my own!

The candles themselves are a white wax.  Underneath the white are the primary colors.  As the candle burns down, each of the colors burn, pool and run down the sides of the taper creating really awesome textures and of course…mixing of colors!  I love these things.  I was busy doing other things as I let the candle burn for an entire day.  Every time I looked at the candle it looked different and there was a new stream of color somewhere.  When this candle completely burns down, I am going to replace it with another one and leave the wax in the base of the holder so the colors can build.  That is why I made the outside tray for the candle holder so large.  I want a little mountain of rainbow wax to form!  These are my new favorite candles.  I am thinking this might be my next “giveaway”.  Not just yet though…but definitely in the near future!

Welcoming Lanterns to Etsy

My lanterns are finally for sale on Etsy.com.  I have been wanting to add them to my page for a while now.  I am slowing building my online store, adding a few things at a time.  All four of these lanterns are now available.  You can check them out on etsy by clicking here.  I have truly loved creating these and have plans to create more to add to the series.  I want to expand my color palate in crystals as well as create new shapes and sizes.  I am definitely intrigued by lighting in general, especially involving candles!  These lanterns are ideal for candles.  Using two to three-inch pillar candles creates a great atmosphere when they are lit.  These would look great in a fireplace, on the hearth, the mantel, or create a unique centerpiece on your table.  Take them outside for your barbecue and swap out the candle for a citronella.

I am generally drawn to greens when it comes to color, but I just can’t get enough of this cobalt crystalline!  I am always surprised by the boldness of their color and crystal formations.  This next lantern reminds me so much of a lighthouse.  I think it would look really neat in a nautical styled room.  It gives the flare of a lighthouse, but is abstract enough to be really unique without becoming a mass-produced model of a lighthouse.  This was not intended to be nautical, but it just reminds me of that.

Of course I had to include a picture of them lit.  You might recognize this picture from my evening photo shoot with my lanterns and domes that I blogged a couple back.  This was taken in Downtown Exeter.
